Now that the weather is starting to cool down, I can think about eating chazuke, which is rice with hot tea, or cha cha rice, as it's sometimes called in Hawaii. It is such an easy lunch or even dinner, when you don't feel too hungry and want something quick. In Japan, you can buy packaged toppings, ochazuke no moto, and all you have to do is plop some rice in a bowl, pour the contents of the package on top and add hot water since the "tea" is included in the package. I admit that I do like the store-bought ochazuke no moto from Nagatanien from time to time, but if I have leftover salted salmon, it's easy enough to make on my own. Just add some cut-up nori, green onions, rice cracker balls and pour some hot green tea over everything and voila, you have an instant meal. Perfect to warm you up on a cold, rainy October day.
